During the second half of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth century, The Royal Mint established branch mints across the world near new sources of gold discoveries. Three branch mints opened in Australia, in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, and each had their own distinctive mint mark.

This set includes a Sovereign from each of the Australian branch mints and one of the first Sovereigns struck in Sydney with the word ‘AUSTRALIA’ within a wreath on the reverse. Each Sovereign also features a royal portrait of either Queen Victoria, Edward VII or George V on the obverse.
