1969 was a momentous year for Britain. Concorde took to the skies, Monty Python hit our screens and a radical new coin was put into circulation to replace the ten-shilling note. As the 50p turns 50, we mark this milestone moment for one of our best-loved coins with a special anniversary set. An original historic 50p from the year of its launch, featuring Christopher Ironside’s classic Britannia design, is paired with a 50p from 2019, celebrating half a century in service for the world’s first seven-sided coin.
