The $3 coin was introduced after the Mint Act of 1853 as a way of boosting transactions of three-cent stamps, which costs $3 per sheet.
Designed by James B Longacre, the obverse represents a native American princess. The wreath on the reverse is made up of tobacco, wheat, corn and cotton.
Coins are mixed year dates between 1854 and 1889
Approximately 5.015 grams of 90% gold and 20.5mm in diameter
